La \u00faltima vez que regal\u00e9 unos zapatos a mi madre
eleg\u00ed unas sandalias negras.
Las estren\u00f3 al otro d\u00eda.
Cuando luego la vi, me quede sorprendido.
Yo se las hab\u00eda regalado para \u201cun d\u00eda especial\u201d
y le pregunt\u00e9 qu\u00e9 porque las hab\u00eda estrenado tan r\u00e1pido
y me dijo:
\u201c\u00bfY si me muero ma\u00f1ana? Las estrenar\u00e1 otra.
Son para usarse ahora\u201d.

\u00a1Dos meses despu\u00e9s, mi madre falleci\u00f3!
Hoy me volv\u00ed a acordarme de las sandalias negras,
ahora m\u00e1s abiertas de un lado que del otro.
Y recordando, me pregunto:
\u00bfQu\u00e9 estamos esperando para estrenar?
\u00bfQu\u00e9 es realmente un d\u00eda especial
cuando la vida se vive una sola vez?

As\u00ed pasamos la vida, esperando el momento adecuado,
el momento preciso, el d\u00eda especial
para estrenar aquello que nos har\u00e1 sentir mejor.
\u00bfCu\u00e1nta gente lleg\u00f3 aqu\u00ed sin decir lo que quiso,
sin ponerse lo que quer\u00eda,
sin regresar a alg\u00fan lugar o sin pedir perd\u00f3n?
\u00bfT\u00fa sabes de amores que jam\u00e1s lo fueron
por esperar un poco m\u00e1s a decirlo?
\u00bfLos matrimonios que se rompieron
porque el otro no dijo perd\u00f3n primero?
\u00bfLos amigos que dejaron de hablarse
por un malentendido?
\u00bfLa familia que jam\u00e1s volvi\u00f3 a reunirse
porque no encontraba el d\u00eda?
\u00bfLos sue\u00f1os que se quedaron en sue\u00f1o
por esperar la oportunidad?
\u00bfLa gente honesta que perdimos
porque fue sincera con nosotros y nos doli\u00f3?

\u00bfY si no llega ma\u00f1ana?
\u00bfQu\u00e9 dejaste sin estrenar para que otro lo estrene?
\u00bfA qui\u00e9n dejaste que otro amara?
\u00bfQu\u00e9 palabras dejaste sin pronunciar?
\u00bfCon qu\u00e9 perd\u00f3n  te quedaste en el pecho ?
\u00bfA qui\u00e9n le debes una explicaci\u00f3n?
\u00bfA qui\u00e9n debiste darle una oportunidad?
\u00bfA qui\u00e9n debiste cerrar la puerta sin jam\u00e1s mirar atr\u00e1s?
\u00bfQu\u00e9 aventura dejaste sin hacer?

Guardamos sin estrenar palabras, compa\u00f1\u00eda,
sentimientos, sue\u00f1os,
s\u00f3lo por miedo a fracasar, por verg\u00fcenza
o peor a\u00fan, por orgullo.

Y as\u00ed vamos calmando los latidos del coraz\u00f3n
sin darnos cuenta de que nos quedamos inertes ante la vida,
por esperar a ma\u00f1ana, cuando el ma\u00f1ana no existe,
que el ma\u00f1ana es s\u00f3lo una esperanza,
una idea que tal vez no llega,
que s\u00f3lo nos queda hoy.

Hoy hay que estrenar los zapatos,
luchar por lo que amas,
luchar por tu sue\u00f1o,
vivir equivoc\u00e1ndonos, intent\u00e1ndolo,
antes de que otro se atreva a la mejor haza\u00f1a.

Y cada ma\u00f1ana, cuando abrimos los ojos en esta tierra de \u201clocos\u201d
es la manera que tiene Dios de decirnos:
\"Atr\u00e9vete a intentarlo, arri\u00e9sgate,
quiz\u00e1s \u00e9ste sea el d\u00eda, si fallas estar\u00e9 aqu\u00ed
y si lo consigues, tambi\u00e9n\".

Hoy estuve en el mismo lugar donde est\u00e1 su cuerpo,
con l\u00e1grimas en los ojos\u2026
y me acord\u00e9 de sus sandalias negras
y me dio verg\u00fcenza de que quise estrenar unos mocasines de colores
y por miedo a que se mojaran no me los puse\u2026
\u00bfy qu\u00e9 si se mojan? \u00a1Que se sequen!
\u00bfY qu\u00e9 si se rompen? \u00a1Ya los us\u00e9!
\u00bfY qu\u00e9 si no funciona? \u00a1Lo intent\u00e9!

Ahora, ya aqu\u00ed pensando,
hoy es un buen d\u00eda para estrenar zapatos\u2026
para comenzar a hacer de los sue\u00f1os realidad.
